Bust of Christ facing / Monogram "M-AV-RIK-IOC T". 20mm, 2.61 grams.
The monogram is not on the list of hundreds of known early Byzantine monograms listed in the “Prosopography of the Late Roman Empire”, but it seems to read something line MAVRIKIOC T. Probably naming the Byzantine Emperor Maurice Tiberius (582-602 CE). The object seems to be patinated bronze, not lead, so it might be a token or pattern coin of some sorts. Unique and very interesting. ex-CNG.
