Emperor Nero (37–68 AD) was the fifth and final Roman emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, ruling from 54 AD until his death. Ascending the throne at 16, he was initially guided by his mother, Agrippina the Younger, and advisors Seneca and Burrus. Over time, he became infamous for his extravagance, cruelty, and alleged involvement in the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD, though his actual role remains debated. Nero was a patron of the arts and enjoyed performing, which scandalized Rome’s elite. Facing rebellion and declared a public enemy by the Senate, he took his own life in 68 AD, marking the end of his dynasty.
