Diademed head right. / BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΡIAΡAΘOY ΦIΛOMHTOΡOΣ to right, left and beneath Athena standing left holding Nike and spear, resting left hand on a shield at her side. O over M in left field, Λ in right field, date H (=8 (109 BC)) in exergue. 17mm, 3.92 grams. Eusebeia under Mt. Tauros mint. Simonetta 4 var.
High grade example in a very nice style. Rare variety with the Λ placed outside the inscription (it is nearly always placed inside).
Ariarathes VII Philometor ("mother-loving"), King of Cappadocia, was the first son of King Ariarathes VI of Cappadocia and his wife Laodice of Cappadocia.
