1861 T-6 Confederate $50 Note – Criswell-6 – Early Issue Rarity
Offered here is an authentic 1861 T-6 Confederate $50 note (Criswell-6), an important and highly collectible piece of Civil War-era currency. This note features a portrait of Christopher G. Memminger, the first Secretary of the Treasury for the Confederate States of America, prominently displayed at the center. The note is punch hole cancelled, and previously mounted. Not the highest grade, but very rare and well-priced for the type.
As an early issue from the Confederate Treasury, the T-6 note holds historical significance and is listed in Criswell’s catalog as one of the early 1861 varieties. These notes were hand-signed and issued before Confederate currency became more standardized, making them highly desirable among collectors.
