10/PENNIÄ/1917 in wreath // Two-headed Russian imperial eagle without crown. 30mm, 12.8 grams. Mint of Finland (Suomen Rahapaja), Helsinki. KM #18; Schön# 12
Nice high grade example.
After the abdication of Nicholas II on March 15 1917, no new Grand Duke of Finland was crowned. Finland remained a part of Russia on uncertain terms - the new coins followed the old design, but the crown was removed from the Imperial eagle. Finland declared its independence from Russia on 6 December 1917. Interesting historical type.
