Sun Kewang was an adopted son of Zhang Xianzhong, the rebel and self-proclaimed Emperor of the Xi dynasty (1644-1647). After the death of Zhang in 1647, Sun led the remnants of Zhang's army to Guizhou, where he styled himself a King. In 1657 he surrendered to the Manchus, ending his anti-Qing rebellion.
