The common Vira Raya stylized motiff, with inverted Nagari letter Pra / stylized boar. 9mm, 0.35 grams. Scarce. Herrli 1.04 type. SKU x2348-w34835
The letter "Pra" on obverse distinguishes these coins from other fanams. "Pra" probably an abbreviated form of "Sri Pratapa Krishnaraya", a legend appering on the Vijaanagar pagodas of King Krishnadevaraya, This type was issued by the Nayakas of Chitradurga - this is the "Chitradurga type 2", probably a later issue, produced in the 18th century. Chitradurga was conquered by Haidar Ali in 1779 and it's been a part of Mysore since then.
