MUGHAL EMPIRE: Kamran Mirza, 1530-1555, AR shahrukhi, NM, ND, KM--, A-J2464.2 var, countermarked 'adl kamran in a square on shahrukhi of Humayun, mint of Lahore, date obscured by countermark. 30mm, 4.5 grams.

Fascinating countermark of Kamran on his brother Humayun's tanka. All coins of Kamran are rare.  Coins like this one, with a shortened countermark (without "Badshah Ghazi" title) seem to be unknown, no examples in Album or on Zeno.

Kamran Mirza was the second son of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire and the first Mughal Emperor. Kamran Mirza was born in Kabul to Babur's wife Gulrukh Begum. He was half-brother to Babur's eldest son Humayun, who would go on and inherit the Mughal throne. Kamran rebelled against his brother, but lost and was exiled. He died in exile in 1557.
