Bearded bust facing left with very crude unread Sogdian legend around // Archer standing while holding bow to the right. 8mm, 0.13 grams. Samarqand mint?. Zeymal 53; MACW 350; Smirnova 535-52; Numista #199190. SKU x3441-53458
Interesting type, very small and light, probably a very late issue of these. The obverse does not show a bust but a tamgha?. Might belong to the very early Kidarites. For a similar coin see Album auction 35, lot #779.
This type imitated the "archer" drachms of Antiochus, with the design continually debased for a long period of time. This type is also sometimes attributed to King Qidr of the Kidarites.
