The identity of Sharaf Beg is unknown - he was probably the Khwarezmian governor of Nandana (where these coins were minted) during the fall of the Khwarezmian Empire to the Mongols. With the fall of Khwarezm, Sharaf probably gained a brief period of independence when he minted these rare coins.
