I A P A D G C & M D T M & P & A R A ("Ioannes Alexii filius Petrus Alexii filius Dei Gratia Czari & Magni Ducas Totius Mafnae & Parvae & Albae Russiarum Autocratores"), crowned double-headed imperial Russian eagle // MON NOV FACTA SIEV A 1686, orb with cross. 19mm, 0.63 grams. Sevsk mint. KM-; Sev.#8; Diakov p.24, Sp fig. 97
Minted in the names of the co-Tsars Ivan Alexeievich and Peter Alexeievich (1682-1696), coinage in joint names during regency of Sofia Alekseevna (1682-1689).
Fascinating and poorly known issue in the Western Style. Struck in Sevsk for the area that now comprises the left-bank of Ukraine. Modelled on a Polish Poltorak and minted in the border town of Sevsk in 1686-87 to fund a planned invasion of the southern Ukraine. A highly interesting and intriguing issue, this specimen displays nice details and very limited circulation. This example is in excellent condition, but has a tiny edge break - these are very common on these coins which are usually found damaged to some degree.
