Nerva AE29 of Syria, Seleukis and Pieria, Antioch.

IMP CAESAR NERVA AVG COS III, laureate head right / Large SC, B below, all in laurel wreath. 29mm, 15.53 grams. Antioch BMC 259.

Nice very large example. From an old collection with a ticket (the owner paid 150 USD for it).

Emperor Nerva ruled the Roman Empire from 96 to 98 CE, coming to power after the assassination of the tyrannical Emperor Domitian. A respected elder statesman and former senator, Nerva was chosen by the Senate to restore stability and legitimacy to the imperial office. His short reign focused on reconciliation, fiscal reform, and curbing abuses of power, though he faced challenges from the military, who remained loyal to Domitian. To secure peace, Nerva adopted the popular general Trajan as his heir, setting a precedent for succession by merit. Though his reign lasted only sixteen months, Nerva is remembered for initiating the era of the Five Good Emperors and restoring confidence in Roman leadership.
