
Very rare AE10 chalkous, Artabanus IV (216-224 CE), Ecbatana, Parthian Empire
Bearded, diademed bust of king left, wearing a tiara with an ear-flap // Horned sea monster left (ram or goat?) reclining left. 10mm, 1.92 grams. Ecbatana mint. Sellwood 90.2, Shore 642.
Very rare type in high quality. Clear portrait which cannot be attributed to the more common type of Osroes II (Sellwood 85.5). This type, known from a few poorly preserved specimens is variously attributed to Artabanus IV, Artabanus V or Artavasdes).
