‘Amr bin Muhammad bin al-Qasim al-Taqafi was the son of the famous Umayyad conqueror Muhammad bin Qasim. He was appointed to be the governor of Sindh by his powerful relative, the Governor of Iraq Yusuf ibn ‘Umar al-Thaqafi. ‘Amr was dismissed from his post in 744 CE by his family’s enemy Mansur ibn Jumhur al-Kalbi, when Mansur briefly held tenure as the Governor of Iraq. He committed suicide to avoid torture by his former prisoner and the new Governor of al-Sindh, Muhammed al-Kalbi.
